Introduction

This document considers the steps that need to be taken before an acute stroke patient is mobilised. Evidence supports that periods of immobility can have a negative effect on older adults. Early mobilisation of acute stroke patients is currently recommended to prevent general and neurological complications such as respiratory problems and contracture. There is no evidence to suggest whether rapid mobilisation is harmful or beneficial after stroke
